Knife Care & Maintenance Guide

Routine Maintenance

1. Cleaning
After use, rinse the blade in warm water and mild soap. Dry it thoroughly before storing or sheathing — moisture left on the blade is the fastest route to corrosion.

2. Lubrication
Apply a light coat of food-safe or multipurpose oil to the blade and pivot (if folding) every few uses or whenever the knife has been exposed to humidity, salt, or blood.

3. Inspection
Check regularly for loose fasteners, dirt buildup, or wear. Tighten hardware with the correct tools and avoid over-torquing screws.

4. Sharpening
Touch up the edge before it dulls. Use a whetstone, guided system, or fine ceramic rod. Frequent light sharpening prevents the need for heavy grinding that removes excess steel.

Use Guidelines

  • Never pry, hammer, or throw your knife — the edge geometry is designed for cutting, not leverage.

  • Avoid contact with stone, metal, or bone where possible.

  • Don’t leave your knife wet, dirty, or stored long-term inside a sheath.

Storage

  • Store in a dry place with light airflow.

  • If displaying or long-term storing, apply a thin coat of oil and keep out of direct sunlight.

  • For carbon steel, a silica gel packet in your drawer or bag helps prevent rust.

Pro Tip

Your knife will tell you when it needs care — a bit of drag in the cut, a darkening near the edge, or stiffness at the pivot. Listen early, act quickly, and it’ll serve you for decades.
